Revitalize Your Scalp the Healthy Way

What do you think of when you hear the words ‘hair care’? I can probably guess two words you don’t immediately think of, ‘scalp care’.  Am I right?

Scalp care is surprisingly just as important as hair care. We spend our time and money focusing on dry and damaged hair and split ends, but we never think of our scalp.

Scalp health is extremely important. It affects the health of our hair follicles which ultimately affect our hair. Scalp pH can mess up your hair if not at the right level and can cause extreme hair breakage. There are a number of ways through which taking care of your scalp can help you have even more beautiful, healthier hair.

Here are some pro tips for taking care of your scalp the right way:

Tip #1: Our mothers and grandmothers have been pushing us to do this ever since we were little; brush your hair. If you properly brush your hair on a daily basis you help take out waste materials such as uric acid crystals and other impurities that tend to build up on the scalp.

Brushing your hair helps to naturally condition it. All of us have naturally produced oils on our scalp which can build up and give a very oily look to the roots. Brushing regularly helps spread these oils throughout the hair which conditions them.

Tip #2: The next tip to a healthy scalp is to wash your hair with a gentle shampoo every two to three days. Shampooing helps clean the scalp and take out sebum and impurities that have been deposited near the roots. If we do not shampoo our hair, harmful bacteria can make our scalp their home and wreak havoc.

Tip #3: After shampooing, it is equally important to use a conditioner. There are several types of conditioners available in the market. Some of these are good for colored hair, some for limp hair and some are used as deep conditioning leave-in treatments. Conditioners help softens your hair and helps with detangling any knots you might have. This leaves your hair shiny, silky and smooth.

Tip #4: As a special treat for your scalp, it is advisable to use essential oils, two to three times a week. There is a wide range of oils to choose from and you can pick what you want based on its fragrance and benefits. The most popular ones are coconut oil, mustard oil, and Moroccan argan oil.

Tip #5: Apart from these daily and weekly ways of caring for your hair, it is important to wash your hair with a good quality clarifying shampoo once a month. The reason you should use a clarifying shampoo is that it helps in deeply cleansing your roots and scalp. It will help take out if any, conditioner build up or any leftover styling product that has not been removed by your regular shampoo.

Lastly, it is very important to be aware of how your hair is doing. Notice any changes in your scalp conditions. Keep an eye out for damaged or dry hair, and be sure to nip any problems in the bud by taking prompt action. If your hair gets too dry and starts falling, then it is a good idea to change your hair care products and go for a trim.
